Early life
Mardanov was born on October 3, 1946 in Armenia.[1] In 1969, he graduated from Mechanics and Mathematics Department of Azerbaijan State University. In 1972, he completed his graduate studies. In 1973, he defended his thesis and got his PhD in 1989. In 1971–1989, Mardanov worked as a teacher, associate professor of Mechanics and Mathematics at Azerbaijan State University and from 1978 through 1989 he was deputy dean of faculty. Throughout his academic career, Mardanov has authored over 15 books and 100 memoirs.[2]
Political career
In 1989-1992, Mardanov worked as the Director of Department of Higher Education in the Ministry of National Education of Azerbaijan, and later Deputy Minister of Education. From 1992 through 1996, he was Vice Rector of Azerbaijan State University for AAcademic Affairs. In 1997, he was appointed rector of the university. On March 26, 1998, he was appointed Minister of Education by President Heydar Aliyev. Mardanov is also the member of the Political Council and board member of New Azerbaijan Party.[2] He is one of the most media criticized government ministers in Azerbaijan.[1]
Awards
In 2000, for his achievements in the field of science and education, he was awarded with an honorary title Honored Worker of Science and in 2006, with Shohrat Order (Order of Glory).[2]
Mardanov is married and has three children.[2]
