History

Though several individuals had previously considered creating a hall of fame for Minnesota boxing,[1] it was boxing historian Jake Wegner who pulled together the local boxing community in 2009, filed for nonprofit status, and assembled a board of directors for the new hall. With Wegner as the president, the board consisted of Jeff Flanagan,[2] Denny Nelson, Jim Carlin, Wayne Bebeau, Jim Wells, and Don Evans.[3] The inaugural class of inductees was announced on July 5, 2010 [4] and the induction banquet took place on October 12, 2010.[5]

Location

The first induction ceremony for the new hall of fame is scheduled to be Jax Cafe Steakhouse in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The physical location of the hall of fame itself is not yet determined, though several venues have been discussed, including Roy Wilkins Auditorium, Warner Coliseum at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, and Uppercut Boxing Gym in northeast Minneapolis.[6]
