Militant Tendency (Ireland) was the Irish section of the Committee for a Workers' International in the 1970s and 1980s when it practiced entryism in the Labour Party (Ireland). In Northern Ireland it operated as a separate organization known as the Labour and Trade Union Group. John Throne founded the group in 1972 along with the newsletter Militant Irish Monthly.[1] The group was one of the most left-wing factions within the party in the 1980s. People associated with it included Peter Hadden, Clare Daly, Dermot Connolly, Joe Higgins and Finn Geaney. The group briefly controlled Labour Youth from 1983 to 1986. After being expelled from Labour the group formed Militant Labour, which became what is now the Socialist Party.
