Mike Bamber

Mike Bamber

Mike Bamber was the Chairman of Brighton & Hove Albion from October 1972. He famously brought Brian Clough to the club later that year and then appointed Alan Mullery, who led the football club to the First Division in the 1978/79 season. He also appointed Jimmy Melia as Manager who led the club to their one and only FA Cup Final in 1983. After relegation in the 1982/83 season, Mike Bamber stood down after the most dramatic 11 years in Brighton & Hove Albion's history.

Personal History

Mike Bamber was a property developer before becoming Chairman of Brighton & Hove Albion.

On July 11, 1988 Mike Bamber, the 57 year old former chairman of the club, died at his home in Jersey.

"Mike Bamber" appears towards the end of the 2009 movie "The Damned United". He meets Peter Taylor & Brian Clough in a lounge at a Brighton seafront hotel to discuss terms with the management duo. The scene lasts for one one minute. The actor Paul Bown, of the TV Series Watching, The Last Patrol and Pirates played the role.

In his 1994 autobiography, Clough said that Bamber was the nicest and best chairman he ever worked for, and if Bamber had been alive, and Clough was tempted to come out of retirement, Bamber's would have been the offer he would have taken.
