Biography
Born in Luxembourg City on 11 September 1982, Reis began to play the piano when he was 8. When he started improvising and composing in his early teens, his father enrolled him in the jazz department at the Luxembourg Conservatory where he studied harmony, composition, improvisation and ensemble. In 2002, he won a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating in 2006.[1] Michel Reis released his first album as a leader for WPR (Waltzing-Parke Records) in 2005, featuring Michael Oien on the bass and Dennis Frehse on drums.[2]
When he was 14, Reis played as a sideman and when he was 16, he became leader of a trio. In 2003, he performed with Gast Waltzing for the album "Fables of Lost Time" and played at the Chet Atkins Festival in Nashville. Reis has performed in Europe, the United States and Japan, with several bands including his own trio. He has also played with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as in duo and solo performances.[1][3]
In 2010, he recorded his third album with nine of his own compositions. It features bassist Tal Gamlieli and drummer Adam Cruz. Flugelhorn player Vivek Patel and soprano saxophonist Aaron Kruziki are featured as guest artists.[4]
