Michal Hazon

Michal Hazon (born June 2, Israel) is an Israeli author, screenwriter and lyricist. She is best known for writing children's series (with the musician Nurit Hirsh).

Private life

Hazon passed her childhood in Tel Aviv. When she was only 8 years old, her first song was already released to a youth magazine. In 1974 she won the songwriting contest, my peace, on behalf of then-President Ephrayim Katzir. This book was given to Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in his historic visit to Israel. She graduated from "Alliance" high school in Tel-Aviv and after. After high school she joined the army, and at the same time enrolled to theater studies and English literature in Tel Aviv University. She continued her studied in Brooklyn College, New York. There she wrote short stories published in English in college and the local private producer drama series broadcast on cable in Canada.

Career

After college Hazon came back to Israel and began to write back in Hebrew in various Israeli newspapers. During these years, also wrote lyrics for singers and adults, as Margalit, Ron Shoval, TAVORI, Yoav Yitzhak Aviva Avidan. In 1989 she married and moved to Jerusalem. In 1990 she gave birth to her eldest daughter, Yael, inspired her writing for children. Initiated in 1992 and wrote the lyrics and the video programs for Kids. Michal turned to her good friend and award winning composer Nurit Hirsh for the music. These programs "tickle me" and "Pim Pam the giant" were overnight best seller and a turning point in Israeli children's songs ever since. The DVDs are still selling and there are tow musicals that were made following the DVD success.

In 2000 she began Hazon to work on TV Channel 2, and various kids channels. In her work has created numerous original series for children and youth. At the same time she began writing hits for singers in English, some even won prizes for writing contests abroad (one song of the year - VH1). In January 2011 Hazon published her first teen-age book: "Shirley Sunshine the Greatest of them all" The book, in the local fantasy genre, tells the story of a girl who becomes homeless and she and her father has to live on the street, but in a magical way, she finds out a secret that gives her super powers and help her to cope with the difficult condition. The book was tow weeks in the best seller's list of "Haaretz" magazine. Following that book Hazon got many letters from teenagers encouraging her to write the second one in the series. Since 2009 Michal is occupied writing for adults and teens, books and features. Her coming project is a novel called "The spell" and it is to be release in "Yediot" publishing, Israel largest publisher. The novel is a family saga, based on a true story about a family in Iraq in the beginning of the 20th century.
