Michael St. Gerard

Michael St. Gerard (born Michael G. Kallassy, January 22, 1961) is an American actor, appearing in Japanese commercials and Off-Broadway shows. His first movie was 1987's Senior Week. He is most recognized for his role as 'Link' in John Waters' Hairspray (1988). He was born in New York Mills, New York.

1989-1994

In 1989 he starred in the first of two movies in which he would portray the late Elvis Presley. The first was called Heart of Dixie and the second also brought out in 1989 was called Great Balls of Fire!. His portrayal of Elvis was so good in both of these movies that when a TV series about Elvis was made Elvis Michael was offered the part of the younger Elvis this ran for all of ten episodes.^[1] To continue his television career he appeared in Beverly Hills, 90210 as an acting teacher in its second season. From here there were few more films made, of those that were they were direct-to-video. These included in 1992 Into the sun and Live Wire and in 1994's Replikator^[2]

Personal Life

In 1994, after having led a Sunday school class, Michael reportedly had a spiritual awakening and as a result of this decided to retire from the world of acting and now focus on religious instruction. At this point he became a pastor in Harlem, New York. As a pastor he has with his church reached out to mainly inner-city youths and now reportedly does not reflect much on his previous stardom.
