Michael Maloney is a Republican politician who formerly served in the Ohio General Assembly. A former political journalist, Maloney initially was appointed to the Ohio Senate in 1964, and went on to win a full term in 1966, following the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and was elected majority whip soon after. He was again reelected in 1970,[1] and served as Chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee throughout his third term, as well as majority whip.[2]

In 1974, Maloney considered running for Ohio Governor, as well as Ohio Treasurer. However he decided to seek another term in the Senate, and won. With Republicans now in a minority, Maloney was elected their leader for the new session.[3] Maloney was approached in 1978 to become Hamilton County Administrator,[4] and in the end, obtained the post. Subsequently, he was resigned his Senate seat, after serving for over fourteen years. He was replaced by Richard Finan.[5]

He went on to serve in his position as administrator since 1987. In 1990, Maloney was appointed Hamilton County Auditor after former auditor Joseph DeCourcy stepped down,[6] but lost reelection to a full term. He has since remained retired in the Cincinnati area.
