Michael Gspurning (born 24 May 1981 in Graz) is an Austrian footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Greek club Skoda Xanthi. He is known for being a solid and dominant keeper and also a good penalty-stopper. Currently he has a contract until December 2011.

Club career

Gspurning began his career in the youth ranks of Austria Wien being promoted to the senior side in 2000. He did not make an official appearance for Austria Wien and in 2001 joined DSV Leoben. He became a regular starter for Leoben appearing in 62 league matches during his stay at the club. As a result of his play with Leobon Gspurning drew the attention of Austrian Bundesliga side ASKÖ Pasching. Gspuning was the clubs backup keeper and played in some UEFA Cup matches during his two years at the club.

In 2007 Gspuning would leave his native Austria signing with Greek club Skoda Xanthi.

International career

Gspurning made his full international debut for the Austrian national football team in their friendly match against Turkey on 19 November 2008, playing all 90 minutes as Austria lost the match 4–2. In 2009, he appeared for Austria in two qualifying matches for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
