Michael Crowther is an American zoo director. He was appointed president and chief executive officer of the Indianapolis Zoo in 2002.[1] He was previously president and chief executive officer of the New Jersey State Aquarium.[2] Crowther is known as creator of the Indianapolis Prize[citation needed], an award for animal conservation.[3]
Crowther was born in Bedford, England and immigrated to Pennsylvania with his family as a teenager.[1] He serves on the boards of the International Species Information System,[4] the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International,[5] and The National Elephant Center.[6]
Crowther and his wife, Eileen (Sweeney) Crowther, have two daughters, Megan and Erin.
