Early life
Morgan grew up just outside Detroit, Michigan as the youngest of two. She started her career at the early age of 16 when she became the visual display merchandiser for well-respected fashion boutique Contempo Casuals in the 1980s. At the time, she was also heavily involved in the rapidly expanding Detroit music scene, something she cites as being a big influence on her work later on in life.[3]
Career
While going to college for fashion design at Wayne State University, Morgan worked for fashion icon Linda Dresner. She was exposed to, and worked with, some of the biggest designers in the world at the time, including Jil Sander, Karl Lagerfeld, Azzedine Alaia, Claude Montana, Dries Van Noten and Comme des Garçons among others. This early exposure to high-end designers and being able to work creatively with the trendiest clothes of the '80s formed the roots of Mia's approach to her work today.
After 6 years at Linda Dresner, Mia moved on to work at Calvin Klein on Madison Avenue while attending film school at SVA in Manhattan. It was from there that she designed costumes for her first feature-length movie. She has since worked on over a dozen feature films whilst returning to fashion to work as a stylist. Mia has stated that having a trained eye in both the fashion and film world has given her a unique perspective on not only what works in fashion and also what looks good on screen and in a photograph.
Today, Mia is known for good nature and her keen attention to detail. She has worked with some of the world's biggest photographers including Patrick Demarchelier, Timothy White, Peter Lindberg, Mark Seliger, Art Streiber, Howard Schatz, Deigo Fuga, Robert Ascroft, Caroline Knopf, Andrew Eccles, Brigette Lacomb and Gilles Bensimon.
Most recently Morgan was the stylist behind Hollywood Pinups, published by Harper Collins in 2008. Photographed by Timothy White, it is a book depicting a number of Hollywood stars posing as classic pin-up girls.[4]
