Brief Introduction
Memorial of Tao xingzhi locates at the foot of a small hill called "laoshan" in the north of Nanjing, the Memorial's Chinese name is "xingzhi yuan".[1] The memorial was built in memory of a great modern Chinese educator, as well as a famous scholar Tao xingzhi. The main scenic spots in the Memorial are: The tomb of Taoxingzhi, Xingzhi pavilion, and an area of woodland.
History and Development
Memorial of Tao xingzhi is also a museum exhibiting Tao's lifetime all year round. It is charged of Xiaozhuang Normal College, which was established by Tao.[2] The memorial was built in 1951. The memorial contains many precious pictures, original manuscrips, writings and remains of Tao. In 1980, after being put up in order, the memorial was open again, exhibited 120 pictures as well as more than 200 pieces of remails. In 1985, the exhibiton room was expanded to 400 square metres. In 1993, the memorial was moved from the university and into the existing Memorial at the foot of laoshan. The new memorial has an area of 800 square metres.
About the hall
The roof is made from cement, shaped like a thatched cottage. The building is 25 metres high, above the door there are two bronze plaques, writing "ligong" literally means the palace of plough, and "The memorial of Tao xingzhi". In the hall stands a bronze statue of Tao. There are two exhibition rooms in the hall, demonstrating almost 400 pieces of pictures and 200 remains, manuscrips of Tao.
