McElhanney was founded in 1910 in Vancouver, Canada, by Mr. WG McElhanney, Professional Engineer and land surveyor. Today McElhanney comprises two companies, McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd. and McElhanney Land Surveys Ltd. It is the oldest engineering company that was formed in Western Canada.
McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd. specializes in combining civil engineering, urban planning, environmental services, mapping/ GIS and surveying, as well as legal, topographic, hydrographic and engineering surveying to develop resource industries and communities, as well as the infrastructures needed to service them.
McElhanney Land Surveys Ltd. focuses on providing surveying and mapping to the oil and gas industries to support the construction of well sites, access roads, pipelines and plant sites.
McElhanney has offices throughout British Columbia, Canada; AlbertaCanada, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland, and in Jakarta, Indonesia. McElhanney Surveys provides consulting services for resource and industrial developments, commercial use, and oil and gas, and McElhanney Consulting provides consulting services to public works’ programs, transportation and highways, and the land development industry. Both companies have completed projects across Canada and McElhanney consulting has worked n over 80 countries worldwide.
Highlights of these projects include the Aceh, Indonesia Tsunami Village Reconstruction Project, where McElhanney supplied the Canadian Red Cross with all services necessary to plan and build over 4,000 new homes after the 2004 Tsunami disaster. Leading a team of Canadian consultants on a three-year project, McElhanney provided planning, geomatics, engineering and environmental services for the survivors in 24 villages. The local population was involved, consulted and trained in new jobs along the way, creating a sustainable community. For this project, McElhanney received the David Thompson Award for their “Contribution to Society”.
McElhanney Consulting in May 2008 purchased a laser imaging system. Called LiDAR, or Light Detection And Ranging , its technology supports aerial mapping projects from around the world in a cross-section of industries: forestry, transportation, telecommunications, petroleum, mining and real estate.
McElhanney also is a reseller of the MapInfo Professional GIS software and encom Discover geological GIS software from Pitney Bowes, IKONOS satellite imagery from GeoEye, and SPOT satellite imagery.
McElhanney Surveys has survey and mapping departments in Fort St. John, Lloydminster, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, Edmonton and Calgary.
