Coaching career
Merritt was the head college football coach for the Allegheny Gators located in Meadville, Pennsylvania. He held that position for 3 seasons, from 1926 until 1928. His coaching record at Allegheny was 8 wins, 15 losses and 2 ties. As of the conclusion of the 2010 season, this ranks him #14 at Allegheny in total wins and #24 at the school in winning percentage (.360).[1]
