In the Russian Federation, the Medal of Zhukov is also "awarded to military personnel of the Ministry of Defence, and other ministries and agencies, in which military service provided by the Russian law, for courage and bravery demonstrated in battle operations in defense of the Fatherland and in the public interests of the Russian Federation".[2]

The Medal of Zhukov was founded in Russia, but was later established in all of the CIS, as a decision of the Council of Heads of State on May 26, 1995.
