McCarthy Nunatak

McCarthy Nunatak (69°7′S 64°45′E / 69.117°S 64.75°E / -69.117; 64.75) is a small nunatak, the top of which is almost at the same level as the surrounding ice plateau, about 5 nautical miles (9 km) southeast of Depot Peak, Mac. Robertson Land. Discovered from ANARE (Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions) aircraft in 1970. Named by Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) after I. McCarthy, senior weather observer at Mawson in 1970, a member of the ANARE Prince Charles Mountains survey party in 1971.
