McAvoy Brewing Company was founded in 1865 as McAvoy & Bemis Brewing by John H. McAvoy and Henry V. Bemis in Chicago, Illinois.[1] In 1889, the brewery was sold to the English-owned investment syndicate, the Chicago Breweries, Limited,[2] leading the way for continued consolidation of Chicago's breweries under English ownership.
