Mbewuleni, Eastern Cape

Mbewuleni is a remote village in the Mbhashe Municipality of the Eastern Cape in South Africa. Its primary claim to fame is as the hometown of former state president Thabo Mbeki. Poor and bucolic, its telephone system is solar-powered. The largest family in Mbewuleni is the Mpahlwa family. The Tutu family also resides there, Desmond Tutu's roots are in this village. His ancestor TUTU himself was buried here.
