Grand Rabbi Mayer Alter Horowitz is an American chassidic Rabbi, son of Grand Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Horowitz, the Bostoner Rebbe zt"l, a scion of the Boston Hasidic dynasty. [1] Rabbi Mayer Alter Horowitz, Rebbe of the Jerusalem branch of the Bostoner Hassidic sect. [2] He was ordained by and Ponevezh Yeshiva of Bnei Brak, Israel and Bais Medrash Gevoha "Lakewood Yeshiva", in Lakewood, New Jersey.[3]

He helped found the International Medical Referral Program of the Bostoner Rebbe zt"l, R.O.F.E.H. - Reaching Out Furnishing Emergency Healthcare, a community based medical referral and hospitality liaison support agency. Today “Reb Mayer”, as Rabbi Horowitz is known, runs the operation remotely.[4]

In 1984 he and a group of Bostoner Chassidim immigrated to Israel and helped found Mosdos Boston of Israel, which established the Bostoner Community of Har Nof, Israel.

In 2003 he established the Bostoner Community in Beitar Illit

In 2007, he began Perush HaMeir, an analysis and translation of the Rambam's Mishneh Torah in Hebrew and English through the Machon HaNesher HaGadol

In 2009, after the passing of his father, Grand Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Horowitz, the Bostoner Rebbe zt"l, he was designated to be the successor of his father in Israel.[5]

Congregation Beth Pinchas is part of the New England Chassidic Center, an umbrella organization providing religious and community services throughout the Boston area.

His elder brother, HaRav Pinchos Dovid HaLevi, succeeded his father-in-law as the Chuster Rov of Borough Park, Brooklyn in 1969. In 2009, R' Pinchos succeeded his father as the Bostoner Rebbe of New York, spiritual leader of the Beitar Illit Community.

His younger brother HaRav Naftali HaLevi ascended to the position of Chief Rabbi of Congregation Beth Pinchas in Brookline, MA, upon R' Mayer's establishment of the Har Nof community. In 2009, R' Naftali succeeded his father as the Bostoner Rebbe of Boston, MA. [6]

His sisters are married to the Vialopola Rebbe of Flatbush, Brooklyn and Rabbi Moshe Chaim Geldzheler of Jerusalem.
