Mayanur (Tamil Nadu)

Mayanur (Tamil: மாய‌னூர்) is a developing tourist place in Tamil Nadu.Mayanur is located in midpoint of TamilNadu. Mayanur is located in Krishnarayapuram Taluk of Karur District. Mayanur is located on "Karur-Trichy" main road (NH-37), 21 km from Karur city and 21 km from Kulithalai.

Cauvery River at Mayanur

Cauvery River flows through Mayanur. The width of the river is maximum (about 1.5 km) in Mayanur. Hence the river is called Aganda Cauvery (broad Cauvery) in this region. Across this river a new bridge-cum-dam construction is in progress. This bridge is estimated to save the travel distance of 40 km.

From the main Cauvery river, 3 more channels are formed in Mayanur and the water has been distributed to the surrounding villages over 50 km.

Temples at Mayanur

Sellandiyamman Temple is located in Mayanur. The statue of the Amman is slightly tilted and focused towards the Cauvery river. The historical stories says that the Amman always wants to see the flow of water of Cauvery river. This temple has been mentioned in the historical story Ponnar-Sankar written by Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi. While writing this story he stayed in Mayanur for a long time. Every year during August Adi-18 festival is celebrated in a grand manner by the surrounding villages and the people of Mayanur.

Mariyamman Temple is located at the centre part of Mayanur. Every year during April, the 5 days festival is being celebrated in a grand manner by the Mayanur people.

Karur KCP packaging limited is located in Mayanur.

Modern Textiles (formerly called as "Fenner (India) Textiles") and Muthu Spinning mills are located 2 km from Mayanur bus stand.

TANCEM (Tamilnadu Asebestos and Cement pipes) industry was opened by M. G. Ramachandran (former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu) in 1983. Few years ago this factory achieved the place of number one factory by revenue in Tamil Nadu. Unfortunately, this factory has been shut down by the government five years ago.

Schools and colleges

Government institute for primary teacher training DIET (District institute of Education and Training)is located in Mayanur. Government High school (till 10th standard) is also located inside the DIET campus. TANCEM matriculation school is running successfully.
