Max Holmes is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Plainfield Asset Management LLC, a hedge fund management company based in Stamford, Connecticut, which specializes in distressed, event and special situation investing.
Background
Prior to founding Plainfield in 2005, he worked at D. E. Shaw & Co., L.P.,[1] a hedge fund management company in New York, from 2002 to 2005, where he was a Portfolio Manager and Managing Director.
Prior to D.E. Shaw & Company, from 1990 to 2002 he held various positions in investment banking, including at RBC Capital Markets, Gleacher NatWest Inc. and Salomon Brothers Inc. in Greenwich, Connecticut and New York. From 1986 to 1989, he worked at Drexel Burnhan Lambert in Beverly Hills, California. From 1984 to 1986, he was a practicing attorney at Vinson & Elkins in Houston, Texas.
Holmes received an A.B. from Harvard College in 1981, a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1984, and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School in 1984. He remains a member of the New York and Texas bars.
Since 1993, Holmes has been an Adjunct Professor of Finance at the Stern Graduate School of Business at New York University, where he teaches “Bankruptcy and Reorganization.”
