Maura Johnston (May 28, 1975 – ) is a writer, editor and music critic who is currently the music editor for The Village Voice.[1]
She has instructed a course entitled "Writing about Popular Music" at New York University since 2010. [2]
Johnston was a founding editor of Gawker Media's Idolator from September 2006, through its acquisition by Buzznet in April 2008, until November 2009.[3][4] Before taking up her current position in April 2011, she was a lead contributor at Popdust.com.[5]
She has contributed to Vanity Fair, The Awl, Newsday and The Daily Beast among other print and online publications, and has made frequent appearances on NPR, WNYC, WBUR and MTV to discuss music and pop culture.
Johnston is a 1997 graduate of Northwestern University, where she majored in Communication Studies.
