New York City, New YorkOccupation Actress Years active 1898–1937 Maude Odell (November 10, 1871 – February 27, 1937) was an actress. Also known as Tillie Doremus, she was one of the United States' best-known stage actresses of the early 20th century.[1]
Odell appeared for 400 nights in The Prisoner of Zenda in New York, which was her first real success. She went on to appear in The Student Prince, Show Boat, and Tobacco Road (in the role of Sister Bessie Rice). Her career spanned almost 40 years.[2]
Odell was found dead in her dressing room just before a performance of Tobacco Road. The cause of death was a heart attack.[2]
