Career
Centrowitz is the son of two-time Olympian Matt Centrowitz. He grew up in Arnold, Maryland near Washington, D.C., where his father is the head track coach at American University.[1] He was a track star at Broadneck High School in Annapolis, Maryland. His negative split 8:41.55 win in the 2 mile race at the Nike Outdoor Nationals was considered one of the best races in prep history.[2] It was the best high school time of 2007.[3] He also set the Maryland state record at 1600 metres at 4:04.09.[4]
Like his father, Centrowitz ran for the University of Oregon, winning the Pac-10 title in the 1500 metres three times and the NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 2011 on his way to the national championship.
He is the 2011 American National Champion at 1500 metres.[5] Winning that championship qualified him to run at the 2011 World Athletics Championships, where he won the bronze medal behind Asbel Kiprop and Silas Kiplagat, finishing strongly in the home straight.
