The Matthes Glaciers refers to a group of glaciers along the Glacier Divide in the Sierra Nevada, California. The glaciers were named for Francois E. Matthes.[1]

Their size in the last decades is reduced to only 15% of their original size when discovered by the Spanish conquistadores.[citation needed]
