Matthew Ezzy (born 2 January 1984) is an Australian ice hockey player currently playing for the Newcastle North Stars in the Australian Ice Hockey League.

Playing career

Matthew Ezzy first played ice hockey for the Gold Coast Grizzlies in 2001. In 2002 he joined the Smiths Falls Bears of the Central Hockey League where he played 29 games and finished with save percentage of 90.7. The following season Ezzy moved to the London Nationals of the WJHL. In 2004 Ezzy played for Aurora Tigers of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League before moving to the Welland Jr. Canadians in the GHJHL. At the end of the 2004–05 season Ezzy returned to Australia to play for the Newcastle North Stars of the Australian Ice Hockey League, where he played 22 games and finished with a save percentage of 90.6.[1]

In 2006 Ezzy joined KHK Crvena Zvezda of the Serbian Hockey League, playing 12 games. Following the 2008 season for the North Stars Ezzy joined the Utrecht Dragons of the Eredivisie, where he played 15 games.[1] Ezzy is currently in his eighth season for the North Stars and is playing in the 2011 AIHL season.[2]

Ezzy was first called up to represent Australia in 2001 where he joined the national under-18 team to compete at the IIHF Asian Oceanic U18 Championships.[3] In 2004 Ezzy moved up to the national senior team to compete at the 2004 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships.[4] At the 2008 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships Division II Group B tournament Ezzy was named the tournaments best goaltender, finished with the best goals against average, and had the best save percentage.[5][6] In 2011 Ezzy was called up for the Australian senior team for his eighth appearance at the World Ice Hockey Championships.[1]
