Maria Elisabeth van der Valk (born July 13th, 1958) is a Dutch Children's literature and spirituality writer. She has written a series of children books for the 9-13 age group centered around two central characters, Amber and Iris, and their great adventures with dolphins.[1] In 2009, her book Dolfijnenmysterie in Mexico! ("Dolphin Mystery in Mexico!"), was the recipient of the Berlicum Children's Jury Award as the best children's book of the year, out of 30 books which were nominated.[2]
Biography
Ms. van der Valk was born in Bloemendaal, Netherlands. Her formal training is in psychology and natural health care, receiving a degree. Her first book for adults was the spiritual tome Antwoorden Uit Het Licht ("Answers From The Light"), published in 2006. In 2005, she was approached by Uitgeverij De Eekhoorn (Squirrel Publishing) to write a series of Dolphin Adventure books, beginning with Het Geheime Eiland! ("The Secret Island!"). Her most recent book is the ninth in the series, De Bedreiging van de Roze Dolfijn! ("Pink Dolphins in Jeopardy!") and will be translated in English. Her father has been a huge inspiration for her to start writing, as he always told his children stories each day. Since 2009, Ms. van der Valk has also been writing a blog about relationships with her partner Brian Ellis,(screen-play writer/ writer), the blog is entitled: Find Real Love. This site is visited by many people and very popular because of the realistic view on Love relationships with people and yourself. Ms.van der Valk has 3 children; Elise (1985), Tobias (1988) and Fay (1991. She travels between the Netherlands and the United States.
