Mary Compton

Mary Compton (1669–6 August 1691) was a member of Queen Mary II's court. She was styled Lady Mary Compton, and then Countess of Dorset.

Hampton Court Beauties

Mary was one of the Hampton Court Beauties painted by Sir Godfrey Kneller for Queen Mary II.[1] Mary was Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Mary II. Mary died of smallpox in 1691 aged just 22 years old. Queen Mary II was said to be much distressed by her passing.

Family

Her father was James Compton, 3rd Earl of Northampton (1622–1681), and mother was Hon. Mary Noel (d.1719), daughter of Baptist Noel, 3rd Viscount Campden. She married Charles Sackville, 6th Earl of Dorset (1637–1705), KG, in 1685.[2] She had two children with her husband:

They lived at Copt Hall, Waltham Abbey, Essex.[4]
