Johann Martin Bernatz, was a German artist ; he was born at Speyer in 1802 and started to study art somewhat late in life, at the Academy at Vienna. Bernatz journeyed with Dr. Schubert to Palestine, Abyssinia, and elsewhere, and created many valuable views of the scenery, which he afterwards published in lithography. He settled as a landscape painter at Munich, where he died in 1878.
