Life and works

Marta, the daughter of two doctors, began her career by studying economics in St Petersburg University (1985–1990), before studying fine arts at Harvard (1996–1997). In 1990 she moved to Manhattan, where she later worked at Christie's Russian department, specialising in the works of Faberge. After studying with the leading American portrait painter Nelson Shanks (2) from 1997 - 2001 she became a portrait painter in her own right. She has exhibited at Harvard and Sotheby's. At the request for late Senator Ted Kennedy, she painted The New England's Patriots, his favourite football team. She spent five years in Piedmont, Italy, from 2001 to 2006, where she produced numerous landscapes and commissioned portraits. From 2006 she has been based in London. She has painted portraits of Robin John Gibb, the son of the Bee Gee's Robin Gibb (1), Professor Robert Mundell (3), the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economics, Nelson Mandella, and Princess Michael of Kent (4).
