Marcus Wibberley (born 1981) is an English cathedral organist, conductor and choir trainer. He has been Sub-Organist at Portsmouth Cathedral since 2005 and was Diocesan Music Adviser for the Anglican Diocese of Portsmouth until 2009.
Biography
Wibberley was a Chorister at Westminster Abbey and subsequently attended Dulwich College as a Music Scholar. He was appointed Organ Scholar at Chichester Cathedral in 1999 and later to the same position at York Minster in 2003. He graduated in 2003 with a First in Music (majoring in performance) from the University of Hull, where he combined his studies with being University Organist & Director of the Chapel Choir[1] and Assistant Organist at nearby Beverley Minster. Before taking up his present position in Portsmouth,[2] he was Director of Music at St Laurence Church, Catford, London.
Wibberley has performed throughout England as well as in continental Europe, the Baltic States and the USA. He is broadcast regularly by the BBC, and features on several recordings. He is Secretary of the Association of Assistant Cathedral Organists.
Portsmouth Cathedral
During Wibberley's tenure at Portsmouth, a chamber organ was purchased in 2007 with funds from a bequest to the Music Department.
