Mixed martial arts career

Vänttinen began his career and compiled a 3–0 record in just over a year. He then joined Fight Festival in Finland. He was amongst the featured names at Fight Festival 22 whilst holding a 6–0 record, with 5 via submission.[1] At Fight Festival 22, Vänttinen backed up his rising reputation, defeating Samir Bourekba via triangle choke in the third round.

M-1 Global

Vänttinen then joined M-1 Global, making his debut at M-1 Challenge 10 in Finland against Christian M'Pumbu. After 2:15 of the first round, M'Pumbu took Vänttinen down with relative ease, before transitioning to Vänttinen's back. M'Pumbu then locked in a rear naked choke for the victory, handing Vänttinen his first professional loss.[2]

Vänttinen returned at M-1 Challenge 12 in the U.S. In the second round against Jason Jones, Vänttinen secured mount and landed multiple punches, before securing Jones' back. However, time ran out and Vänttinen only took the unanimous decision victory.[3]

Vänttinen then fought UFC veteran Rodney Wallace at M-1 Challenge 16, also in the U.S. The event was more high profile than usual M-1 events due to Fedor Emelianenko and Gegard Mousasi (M-1 employees) being in attendance. Vänttinen was overpowered by Wallace and lost via unanimous decision.[4]

Vänttinen's final appearance in M-1 was at M-1 Challenge 17 - Korea against Emil Zahariev. Late in the third round, Vanttinen made his opponent submit to punches.[5]

Outside of M-1, Vänttinen appeared for Fight Festival three times and for "Cage" twice, winning all five.

On May 14th, Vänttinen took on Attila Vegh at Rock and Brawl, in Kouvola, Finland, and lost via unanimous decision.

Bellator

Vänttinen has signed with Bellator Fighting Championships and is expected to compete in there upcoming Season 6 light heavyweight tournament.[6]
