She is the sixth grandchild and second granddaughter of the currentmonarchs ofSpain , Juan Carlos I andQueen Sofia of Spain and aGrandee of Spain .Irene also has three older brothers, Juan, Pablo, and Miguel. She is currently eleventh and last in the
line of succession to the Spanish Throne .Irene was named after her grand-aunt,
Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark , the sister of Queen Sofia. She was named "Todos los Santos" (English: "All Saints"), as it is customary among the Bourbons. This name is only granted to members of the royal house. Although she is a member of the royal house, Irene and her siblings cannot be styled as "Royal Highness",Infante orInfanta . As the children of the SpanishDuke andDuchess ofPalma de Mallorca , they are, however, styled as "His/Her Excellency Don/Doňa,Grandee of Spain ".She was baptized on
14 July 2005 in the garden of thePalace of Zarzuela , Barcelona. Her godparents arePrincess Rosario of Bulgaria and Pedro López Quesada. Cardinal Rouca Varela performed the baptism.
