Manomio

Manomio

Manomio LLC is a small US based independent mobile game developer with strong focus on getting retro gaming to mobile platforms as the iPhone, iPod and Android. Founded by Australian developer Stuart Carnie and Danish entrepreneur Brian Lyscarz in late 2008.

The company gained attention in May 2009 when they brought a port of Flashback (video game) (90's Amiga cult classic) to the iPhone/iPod touch, a game which curiously enough was only an interpreter of the original game files based on the REminiscence engine by Gregory Montoir. On the first launch of the game it downloaded 3MB of the original DOS data files in order to play the game witch started several debates on internet about the term "abandon-ware".

No one knew it at the time, but this mechanism foreshadowed the dramatic release and re-release saga of their officially licensed Commodore 64 Emulator, an app which sparked countless debates over the merits of Apple's approval process as its fate on the App Store slowly unfolded.
