Manoj Srivastava[1] is an Indian actor, a celebrated filmmaker, author, and film festival director. He currently heads the Entertainment Society of Goa,[2][3][4] The Society co-organises the International Film Festival of India every year in Goa. He heads it as its Chief Executive Officer.[5][6][7][8]
Personal life
Manoj Srivastava aka Robbin was born and brought up in old Delhi, south of the famous Jama Masjid as the eldest of three brothers. His initial interest was cricket, music. He excelled at a young age in sports, music, dance and debating. Later he studied sociology and journalism in Delhi. In between he tried modeling and cricket as careers.
Career
Beginning his career as a journalist, he landed up at Doordarshan, the Indian national broadcaster where he learnt the ropes of television and film direction before joining the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune as a student. In between, he learnt the German language at Max Muller Bhavan, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, New Delhi. At Doordarshan, in a career span of 15 years, he directed a number of TV shows, music videos, Chat Shows, Documentary Films, Short Films, tele films and Dramas. He also wrote on cinema extensively for nearly a decade. His writings on Charlie Chaplin and Guru Dutt are considered landmark and quoted often.
He joined the Directorate of Film Festivals and looked after National Film Awards, Indian Panorama selections, cultural exchange and International Film Festival of India as Deputy Director and Programmer. At the CEO at Entertainment Society of Goa[9] he launched Short Film Center and initiated Short film movement in India in 2008.
the same year, he directed and produced a nine-minute documentary on poor and rich children of INDIA ---OF HAVES AND HAVENOTS (Hum Panchhi ek Daal Ke)[10] which was a great success. Among other international film festivals, it was screened at the Cannes, Brisbane and many other international film festivals.
Srivastava has delivered lectures on cinema, culture and history around the world. In August 2011, he served on the international film jury at CINDI Film Festival, Seoul, Korea. He writes regularly for foreign media on Indian Cinema . He has his own column "Letters From Bollywood" in the on-line news agency BNA GERMANY®[11] and another one 'Frankly Speaking' in the print edition of BNA GERMANY.[12] since October 2010.
Besides writing on cinema, he has completed a novel ("Evil Within") and another book a commentary on Delhi, "Dilli 6". His book WIDE ANGLE – History of Indian Cinema is about to be released[when?] by Penguin, India. The book is already sold out on flipcart much before its release. His two other books on cinema are also nearing completion.
