Manga Hero is a publisher of original English-language manga. It is based in San Rafael, California. The company’s stories typically involve heroic characters that usually come from a Jewish or Christian background.[1] Manga Hero’s current publications include Paul: Tarsus to Redemption, written by Matthew Salisbury and Gabrielle Gniewek,[2] and Judith: Captive to Conqueror, also written by Gabrielle Gniewek.[3] The writers are from John Paul the Great Catholic University in San Diego.[4][5] Sean Lam illustrated both series and lives in Singapore.[6] Sean also illustrated a single volume OEL manga titled It Takes a Wizard published by Seven Seas Entertainment in 2009. The organizers of World Youth Day 2011 recently announced that Manga Hero will launch a special manga titled Habemus Papam! where 300,000 copies will be distributed during the event in Madrid. This manga chronicles the life of Pope Benedict XVI and will be published in English and Spanish.[7][8][9][10] Manga Hero is also developing manga on Pope John Paul II, Mother Theresa, and Maximilian Kolbe.[11]
