- Manchester City Council's U Decide
-
U Decide is a funding initiative for community groups begun by manchester City Council in 2008.
Four wards in Manchester in 2010 took part in the Manchester City Council funding initiative 'U Decide'. This is a public event held annually in each ward in which all residents in that ward are eligible to vote for funding to go to community groups in that ward who have applied to receive funding. The voting is conducted on a referential voting basis, where the applicants are ranked from one down. Each community group makes a short public presentation, of 3–5 minutes, stating how they will spend the money and requesting an amount up to £1000 for their group. The total pot for each ward has so far been between £10,000 and £15,000.
This initiative was first held in Chorlton, and is now also held in Whalley Range, Fallowfield and Northenden. The Chorlton event has received the most applications so far, with 16 valid submissions for the event on the 4th of November 2010.[1]
Applicant groups must active in the local ward, and be submitted on behalf of an existing or newly formed community group.
