Malmö Symphony Orchestra

The Malmö Symphony Orchestra (Swedish: Malmö SymfoniOrkester) is a Swedish orchestra, based in Malmö. Since 1985, the orchestra has given its main concert series in the Konserthuset, Malmö. The orchestra has a current complement of 94 musicians. It performed both symphony concerts and as the opera orchestra in Malmö until 1991, when the orchestra became exclusively devoted to symphony orchestra concerts.

The orchestra was founded in 1925 with Walther Meyer-Radon as the first chief conductor, from 1925 to 1929. Herbert Blomstedt held the title of Huvuddirigent (principal conductor) from 1962-1963. Past principal guest conductors have included Brian Priestman (1988-1990), Gilbert Varga (1997-2000), and Mario Venzago (2000-2003). Since 2011, the orchestra's chief conductor has been Marc Soustrot.

The orchestra has made recordings for BIS and Naxos.[1][2]

2011 they preformed on the soundtrack of the video game Assassins Creed Revelations.
