William Kvist Jørgensen (born February 24, 1985) is a Danish football player for F.C. Copenhagen. He is an allround player who can be used in most defense and midfield positions but his favorite position is the central midfield. Although, he was picked out to relieve Lars Jacobsen on right back in the club in the autumn 2007,cite web |url=http://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/dansk_fodbold/fc_koebenhavn/article316838.ece |title=Ny højre back i FCK |last=Schrøder |first=Rene |coauthors=Carlskov, Thor |date=2007-07-09 |accessdate=2007-07-09 |publisher=Ekstra Bladet |language=Danish ] until Zdeněk Pospěch was bought to the position.

He has totally played 43 matches and scored 4 goals for various youth national teams, and a single match for the A national team.

Biography

Born in Rønde in Jutland, Kvist started his football career as a five old in the local club Thorsager Rønde IF. Two years later he moved to Copenhagen where he started in KB, one of the two clubs behind F.C. Copenhagen. While at KB, he made his debut for the Danish youth national teams in November 2000 and played 4 matches at the 2002 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship.

William was promoted to the first team in 2004. He debuted on 2005-04-23 against FC Nordsjælland where he replaced an injured Ole Tobiasen on the right back position. His first F.C. Copenhagen goal came on October 22 2006 in a 3-0 win against Viborg FF, where he scored the last goal from long range.

Against Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League 3rd qualification round 2006 it was Kvist's pass that deflected off Ajax-defender Thomas Vermaelen for an own-goal. This goal eventually sent F.C. Copenhagen through to the Champions League Group Stage.

He has a past as handball player, and is therefore known for his very long throw-ins. In the season 2005-06, he often came in as substitute on mostly the left wing - a position he didn't enjoy playing. He has also played in defence and other midfield positions.

Kvist was called up for the league national team, which will play a number of unofficial national team games in the United States, El Salvador and Honduras in January 2007, by national team manager Morten Olsen. He was in the starting lineup for all 3 games of the tour, including a 3-1 loss to the United States national team on January 20, 2007.

After the right-back Lars Jacobsen travelled to 1. FC Nuremberg in the summer 2007 was Kvist nominated by coach Solbakken to be the new right back in the club, after having looked at about 50 different players, without result. On August 17 2007 he was called up by Morten Olsen to the A national team's friendly match against Ireland on August 22, [cite web |url=http://www.dbu.dk/news/newsShow.aspx?id=240623 |title=Fire Ligalandsholdsspillere med mod Irland |accessdate=2007-08-17 |last=Berendt |first=Lars |date=2007-08-17 |publisher=Danish Football Association |language=Danish ] and in the half time of the match, he replaced Kasper Bøgelund on right back.
