History
Malaya Sadovaya street is a painting by the Russian artist Alexander M. Semionov (1922-1984), executed in 1979. In the painting artist has depicted a view of Malaya Sadovaya Street in Leningrad of the end of 1970s.
In the artistic heritage of Alexander Semionov picture holds a special place. Painted on the height of artist career, five years before his death, she became one of the peaks of his creation. Image of one of the most beautiful streets in the city rises up to the general, romantic and extremely attractive image of Leningrad late 1970's as a whole. Artist convincingly conveyed a sense of time and place, unhurried flow of Leningrad life.
For the first time the painting was exhibited in 1987 at the posthumous exhibition of works by Alexander Semionov in the Exhibition Halls of the Leningrad Union of Artists.[1] Then the painting was shown in the cities of Leningrad region. In 1994 the work was exhibited at the Art Show Paintings of 1950-1980s by the Leningrad School Artist,[2] in Saint Petersburg in the Exhibition Halls of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists. In 1996 the painting was exhibited at the Art Show Paintings of 1940-1990s from the Leningrad School, in Saint Petersburg in the Nikolai Nekrasov Memorial Museum.[3] The painting was also reproduced on the cover of the exhibition catalog of 1996 Art Show. The principal St. Petersburg newspapers noted in his comments painting Malaya Sadovaya street by Alexander Semionov and put its reproduction.[4][5]
