- Major Iqbal
-
Major Iqbal is a Pakistani national who has been indicted in United States district court in Chicago on April 25, 2011 as an alleged conspirator in 2008 Mumbai attacks.[1][2] Iqbal occasionally went by the name of Chaudhery Khan.[3] The trial started at a time when U.S. relations with Pakistan were strained after death of Osama bin Laden.[4][5] The prosecution alleged that Iqbal had provided Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative David Headley with US $ 25,000 in July 2006 for conducting surveillance trips of Mumbai for LeT to identify potential targets.[2] The chargesheet does not name Iqbals Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) affiliation though this has been detailed in both US and Indian case files.[6] His name was included in a list of 50 most wanted fugitives based in Pakistan released by Government of India which claims that he is a serving officer of ISI.[7] Iqbal allegedly was the main handler of Headley.[8] He was involved in recruiting, training and directing him.[9]
