Biography
Mahthu Uchitpe (born 1988) is a Middleweight Muay Thai prodigy (nak muay) in Chiang Mai. He is also known as 'The Legend' by the local Muay Thai fanatics.
Like his father, Uchitpe was born with muscular dystrophy, which greatly burdened his childhood with a difficulty in walking. He was advised by his uncle Hanuman Chao to take traditional Chinese medicine from a local Chinese doctor, receive acupuncture, and attend Muay Thai lessons from who Uchitpe still considers the best Muay Thai teacher in Chiang Mai - Supsampantuwongse Vessandan. However, his muscle weakness prevented him from practicing Muay Thai until it was cured.
By the age of six, Uchitpe had achieved perfect balance and could walk over 100 metres without stopping. His ambition for Muay Thai led him begin practicing the martial art. After three years of practicing Muay Thai, Vessandan tried to convince him to give up for his lack of agility and strength. He continued on, but after another six months his teacher expelled him. However, he continued to practice by himself and trained hard for strength by lifting sacks of rice, and agility by going through his homemade obstacle course of tyres and rope.
At the age of 14 he was fully confident in running a marathon, and returned to Vessandan to display his superb Muay Thai technique and physical fitness. With only three years of training with Vessandan, he was considered more than ready by his peers and even his teacher to enter the local Muay Thai contests.
He thus began a successful career, having completed over 113 matches with only a 8% loss percentage and has recently applied to enter Muay Thai competitions in Bangkok's most renowned stadiums - Lumpinee Boxing Stadium and Rajadamnern Stadium.
In an interview conducted for the local newspaper, Uchitpe smiled and said "I love Muay Thai: my passion, my hope, my dream; but I love most my girlfriend, Nittaya." When asked about his other interests, he chuckled and said "FIFA 10 on my computer, of course!"
