Maharès (Mahrès, or Al Mahres; Arabic: place for guard) is a small town in Tunisia with a population of 25,000 which swells to 50,000 in the summer with the return of Maharesians who have immigrated to France, Italy and other Western European countries.

The area has no special industry, but the town does attract tourists from around the globe. There is a large sandy beach 5 kilometers to the north called Chaffar.

Al Mahres is about 1000 years old, and includes the Roman building of Younga, built by the ancient Romans. Now we can find a café called Younga, and a little mosque of Sidi Ahmed Absa.
