Durul Taylan (1969) and Yağmur Taylan (1966), also known as The Taylan Brothers are Turkish film directors[1][2] who are well known for their works in Turkish film and television. Having studied Industrial Engineering and Medicine respectfully, The Taylan Brothers started their work behind the camera with their first Television project Sir Dosyası. After directing several other Television series such as Cinler ve Periler, Baba and the hit comedy show Beşik Kertmesi, they moved on to the big screen filming their first motion picture, Okul. The horror-comedy film Okul went on to become a critical and financial hit. Having been praised by turkish critics for being an ambitious debut, Okul grossed $3,255,287 domestically.[3] After Okul, they worked on Television projects such as Alacakaranlık, a police drama ; and the comedy series Yabancı Damat (The Foreign Groom) filmed in Greece and Turkey. Yabancı Damat was a big hit both in Turkey and other foreign countries such as Greece, Bulgaria and Arabia and lasted 106 episodes in total. Yabanci Damat was nominated in 6 categories in the 1st Annual Primetime Beyaz Inci Awards and won in 3 categories including Best Music, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress. In 2006 they filmed their second motion picture Küçük Kıyamet ( The Little Apocalypse), a psychological horror film. Küçük Kıyamet won several awards including Best Editing in the 18. Ankara Film Festival, Best Actress in the 12. Sadri Alışık Awards and Best Supporting Actor in the 28. Turkish Film Critics Association (SİYAD) Awards.[4] After Küçük Kıyamet they filmed the Television Series Karayılan, a drama about the eastern front of the Turkish Independence War. After Karayılan, they filmed their third motion picture Vavien (Two-way Switch). Vavien was a big critical hit winning the Best Picture and FIPRESCI award in the 29. International Istanbul Film Festival and also earning 11 Nominations in the Turkish Film Critics Association (SİYAD) Awards and winning in 5 categories. The Taylan Brothers are currently filming Muhteşem Yüzyıl, a Turkish prime time historical soap opera television series broadcast on Turkey's Show TV network. It is based on the life of Süleyman I (also known as Suleiman the Magnificent), the longest reigning Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, and Hürrem (a.k.a. Roxelana), the slave girl who became his queen.
