Dr. Tania Pleitez is an author and lecturer on Latin American Literature, focusing on the study of literature and culture from Pre-Columbian Times to main trends of 20th Century Latin American literature, and writings of Spanish American Women from 17th century to present day.
She currently lives in Barcelona, Spain, and is a Lecturer at University of Barcelona.
She was born in El Salvador and educated at Universitat de Barcelona , Universidad de Costa Rica , Universidad Latina de Costa Rica. She holds a PhD in Spanish American Literature (2003) from Universitat de Barcelona.
Her background is also in the non-profit area, and has worked at Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress and consulted for Sistema de Asesoría y Capacitación para el Desarrollo Local (SACDEL#.
She authored the book, Contando Estrellas/ Counting Stars: Siglo XX #pub May 2004; ISBN 9788426414458) and was credited researcher for the biography Alfonsina Storni : Mi casa es el mar (Pub. Date: November 2003; ISBN 9788467010565.
Her lectures often focus on Latin American female authors and on the Latin American female experience
Previously, her non-profit work involved organizing the workshop program “Talleres de Planificación Participativa.” In which workshops were held in rural areas affected by civil war #Morazán zone#. Community leaders and local citizens gathered together for three days to decide upon infrastructure and social priorities. NGO monitors and local leaders process information and write local plans and case studies to present to donors. She also was workshop organizer of the program “Causes of Conflict in the Third World” #a joint project with the Clingendael Institute), which brought together specialists from Asia, Africa and Central America in two annual meetings. The results of the project were published in: P.S. Douma, "The Origins of Contemporary Conflict. A Comparison of Violence in Three Regions" (Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael, 2003).
