Johnson, a global executive focused on diversity and innovation, is the Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the Lockheed Martin Corporation.[1] As an Officer of the Corporation and a member of the executive leadership team, Dr. Johnson guides the Corporation’s technology vision and provides corporate leadership in the strategic areas of technology and engineering, which include more than 65,000 people working on more than 4,000 programs that provide some of the nation’s most vital security systems. He also leads the Corporation’s Advanced Concepts Organization and the Center for Innovation, a world-class laboratory for collaborative experimentation and analysis involving Lockheed Martin, its customers, and industry partners. Dr. Johnson has a proven track record in managing large P&L organizations, strategic planning, program development, program management, and venture capital funding. He previously served on the boards of two biotechnology companies.
Dr. Johnson currently serves as a member of the Sandia Corporation, National Math and Science Initiative, and Hispanic College Fund Boards of Directors and as a member of the Project Lead the Way Advisory Board.[2][3] Dr. Johnson is a member of the Governing Board of the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum and a sponsor of the DST-Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Program. Dr. Johnson is on the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Technology Innovation Program (TIP) Advisory Board.[4] He is on the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Technology Council and the Virginia Center for Innovative Technology. He is also a member of the Virginia Innovation and Entrepreneurship Investment Authority and the Maryland Federal Facilities Advisory Board. Dr. Johnson is a member of the Board of Visitors for the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, on the Dean’s Advisory Council for the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, and the chairman of the USA Science and Engineering Festival's Advisory Board.[5]

Thought Leadership
Dr. Johnson was invited to participate in the 2009, 2010, and 2011 World Economic Forum Annual Meetings in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland. In 2009, he served on the New Frontiers of Conflict panel where he discussed new trends in conflict and countries’ ability to respond to them.[6] In 2010, he served on the Rethinking the Global Commons: Space panel where he discussed the current issues of space debris and the international collaboration required to mitigate future effects.[7] He served on the Space Security Council during the 2010 World Economic Forum Summit on the Global Agenda where over 600 of the foremost global experts from business, government, academia, and civil society worked together to address the key issues on the global, regional, and industry agendas.[8]

Dr. Ray O Johnson (2011)During the 2011 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, he served on The Science Agenda in 2011 session, where he represented industry. The panel discussed the trends and norms facing the global science agenda. Dr. Johnson stressed the need for bold investments in scientific research and development, global collaboration and innovation, and new business models that keep pace with rapidly changing technology. He summarized by stating that we do not have the scientific underpinnings to solve many of the world's most challenging problems. [9] He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Space Security.
Dr. Johnson was a driving force behind the International Academy of Astronautics, Heads of Space Agencies Summit, held in Washington, DC. The heads of space agencies from 30 nations met to discuss the future of space collaboration in the areas of Human Spaceflight, Planetary Robotic Exploration, Disaster Management, and Climate Change.[10]
Dr. Johnson is a Full Academician of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), a Fellow of the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Kappa Phi. Dr. Johnson Chairs the Council on Competitiveness Technology Leadership and Strategy Initiative.
Prior Executive Roles
Before joining Lockheed Martin, Dr. Johnson was the Chief Operating Officer for Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI), of Alexandria, Virginia. Prior to that, he held a variety of increasingly responsible executive positions with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), including Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Advanced Concepts Business Unit.
Dr. Johnson was a member of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board from 2001 to 2005, where he chaired the 2003 Summer Study titled, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in Perspective: Effects, Capabilities, and Technologies and co-chaired the 2002 Summer Study titled, Predictive Battlespace Awareness.[11] He participated in several additional Summer Studies and Science and Technology Reviews. His Air Force career included assignments in laser physics and systems design and analysis, electro-optic systems research and development, survivability, and command and control.
Education
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Johnson holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University, where he received the Hall of Fame award from the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology in 2010, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, where he received the Distinguished Alumni award in 2010.
