Dou Shan Street

Dou Shan Street is a street with a long history in Shexian County, Anhui province. It’s named after Dou Hill. Dou Shan Street is a well-known tourist attraction in Shexian County, which is famous for its old buildings, old alleys, old sculpture, old wells and old memorial archway. It’s also one of the level one reserves of cultural historic city.^[1][2]

Location

Dou Shan Street is in the south of Shexian County, about half kilometer away from the center of the county.

History

Dou Shan Street was founded in Ming and Qing Dynasty.

Famous Scenic Spot

Dou Shan Street has the typical style and features of Huizhou scenery. Some of the old mansions there are representative buildings of Huizhou ancient dwellings, such as Wang and Yang clans’ houses. Some other spots are Chastity Memorial Arch of a woman surnamed Ye, Toad Well, Wooden Shield Memorial archway and so on.

Tradition

Dou Shan Street was a settlements of Hui merchants in the old days, who regarded education as a fundamental part of one’s life. And till now, people there still attach much importance to education. Many families still keep the tradition of hanging a picture of Confucius on the wall.

Huizhou

Huizhou is a region famous for its old building and culture in China, and also the birth place of Hui Merchants. Huizhou has a long history, and can dates back to the Warring States Period. Everyday, Huizhou attracts million of people to appreciate its splendid natural and cultural landscape.

Shexian

Shexian is a history and cultural county belonging to Huangshan City, Anhui province, one of six famous counties in Huizhou.And it is famous for its old buildings.
