Founded 2006 Location Port Louis, Mauritius Focus To establish a .africa Top Level Domain and address lack of internet policy in Africa Motto Your Online African Identity Website DotConnectAfrica DotConnectAfrica (DCA) is a non-profit, non-partisan organisation that was founded in 2006 and incorporated in Mauritius[1] to sponsor, establish and operate the proposed new Top Level Domain(TLD).africa, a Sponsored top-level domain that will cater for the needs of the African and Pan-African community and also to address the lack of adequate internet policy in Africa.
DotConnectAfrica has its headquarters in I/F River Court 6th Denis Street Port Louis, Mauritius. DCA is well represented in Nairobi Kenya, Addis Ababa Ethiopia, South Africa and Walnut Creek California,USA.
The organization also intends to apply for the delegation of .afrique,the French version of .Africa and .afriqya ,the Arabic version of .Africa.
Governance Structure
At present the governance structure of DotConnectAfrica is made up of a consortium of public-private partnerships that include businesses, non-profit – NGOs and other relevant African stakeholders and individuals in the region.
According to the organization, the governance model is to be adapted from Africa’s development policy model augmented with other GeoTLD models. Public Policy considerations will also include direct input from African policy makers, including the African Union, Economic Commission for Africa and African Development Bank.
