Dorothy Green (environmentalist)

Dorothy Green was the founding Director of the California Water Impact Network. She served on the statewide board that directed the fight to stop the Peripheral Canal when it was on the ballot in 1982. She also was Founding President of Heal the Bay and President Emeritus of the Los Angeles & San Gabriel Rivers Watershed Council. She served as a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Commissioner for three and a half years, and chaired a water policy conference, the POWER Conference, now in its sixteenth year. Green died on October 13, 2008 after a long battle with cancer.[1]

Awards

The President's Award for Volunteer Service presented by the head of US EPA Steve Johnson, February 2007. Green was also honored in Vanity Fair's May 2007 "Green" issue as one of the Golden State's Eco-Warriors.
