Donald Earl Rives (born August 30, 1951 in Wheeler, Texas) is a former professional American football player who played linebacker for five seasons for the Chicago Bears. Rives attended Texas Tech University and played under coach Jim Carlen, graduating in 1974. He was inducted into the Red Raider Athletic Hall of Honor in 2006. He was named second team All American in 1972.[1]
In December 2010 Rives was suspended from his position as the athletic director and head football coach of Morton High School in Morton, Texas amid allegations that Rives assaulted two 6th grade students. One student claims that the coach choked him, and the other student claims he was injured when the coach slapped him and pressed his elbow against the child's throat.[2][3] He was formally charged with two counts of "Injury To A Child" on December 10.[4] He has since resigned from his position with the Morton ISD, and been indited by a grand jury.[5]
